Creamy Dairy-Free Soup Recipes

Daiya "Cheese", one of my all time favorite allergy-friendly ingredients has this great round up of soups on their website.  I love their products, and highly recommend them!! These recipes have some fun ideas for how to make a non-dairy soup creamy! Their website has many other wonderful recipes and ideas.

How to make creamy broccoli soup without the cream? This blog shows you how, by featuring a DIY dairy milk alternative made from raw almonds and a bit of date syrup. Of course, you could opt to use your favorite store-bought dairy-free milk – but if you have the time and a blender, we recommend you give this recipe a shot!

Vegan Cream of Mushroom Soup, from Healthful Pursuit (pictured)
Another popular veggie to highlight in a creamy soup, the humble mushroom is made elegant here with ingredients like Himalayan rock salt and almond milk. For added creamy texture, the recipe calls for a generous amount of cauliflower florets to be blended in. The result is smooth and satisfying.

Here’s a wonderful recipe for when you’re looking for a soup that’s comforting, but also a little bit exotic. Classic Thai flavors like fresh ginger, lime and (gluten-free) soy sauce are made creamy by a combination of coconut milk and Sunbutter (or your nut butter of choice.) Enjoy it on its own, or add extra protein or vegetables to make it a heartier meal.

Love a classic cream of chicken soup but looking to skip the dairy? This recipe has all the flavors you’re looking for, but with almond milk instead of the more traditional cream. A delicious blend of herbs and spices (like garlic, oregano and parsley) create a complex flavor that can be enjoyed alone or used as a base for dishes like chicken pot pies. Are you gluten-free as well as dairy-free? Substitute the all-purpose flour for the gluten-free brand of your choice.

Dairy-Free Pumpkin Soup, from Tessa the Domestic Diva
A seasonal specialty that can be either sweet or savory, pumpkin soup comes in so many delicious variations. This one is made especially interesting by surprise ingredients like a pureed apple, whole sage leaves, maple syrup, lime juice, and rich coconut milk instead of dairy cream.

The perfect thing to pair with a deliciously dairy-free grilled cheese sandwich, a cup or bowl of creamy tomato soup is a fall staple. Instead of cream, this recipe relies on the smooth texture of pureed vegetables – including a potato, for good measure. As for the sandwich, let the entries of our First Annual Grilled Cheese Cook-off inspire you. They’re all featured on the recipes page of daiyafoods.com, as are other fantastic dairy-free recipes to be savored all year round."
